Parking on steep slopes is possibly my least favorite aspect of driving. But, considering I live in the Bay Area, there’s no avoiding it — eventually, I’ll have to park on a hill.
Knock on wood (or steel), I’ve never rolled into another car. I have, however, received a rather hefty ticket for not curbing my wheels. (For those of you who live in the flatlands, curbing your wheels simply means turning them in the direction that would lead your car into the curb if it were to roll.)
Here in San Francisco, if the street grade is more than 3 percent, your wheels must be curbed. Considering many slopes in SF measure between 20 and 30 percent, I suppose the Department of Transportation’s simply doing their due diligence … I just wish it didn’t involve a $55.00 ticket on my windshield.
