A Kit to Keep You Ready for Anything (Even Zombies)

Check out what’s inside our premium emergency car kit and enter the Esurance Zombie Sweeps for your chance to win one.

This week’s sweeps has ended. Comment on the most recent zombie blog post to be entered in the ongoing sweepstakes.

We’re 2 weeks into the Esurance Zombie Sweeps, and so far, your survival gear suggestions have been fantastic. Many entries have stressed the importance of having a solid plan and a stable group to fend off walkers, while others forgo companionship and suggest stockpiling duct tape, a good pair of running shoes, and plenty of batteries.

To continue our celebration of National Preparedness Month (and to prep for the return of The Walking Dead), we’re giving away 100 emergency car kits stocked with survival essentials, and one grand prize: a trip for 2 to zombie survival camp! Not only will this gear prepare you for roadside emergencies, power outages, and the unpredictable wrath of nature, but it’ll also come in handy in a fight against the undead. Check it out below.

Enter the Zombie Sweepstakes*

To enter our sweeps for a chance to win an emergency car kit, all you have to do is comment below and tell us what you think is the most important thing to have in an emergency. Whether you’re preparing for a winter storm, a flat tire in 100-degree heat, or the zombie apocalypse, tell us what you’d want to have (aside from food, water, and some type of weapon … for the zombies, of course).

Your comment will also automatically enter you for a shot at the grand prize — a trip for 2 to zombie survival camp in Portland, Oregon, including a 2-night hotel stay and $2,000 in travel money.

If you don’t win this time, don’t worry. You’ve still got one more week to come back and try again.

Sorry, New Yorkers! You aren’t eligible to win due to regulations in your state. But we encourage you to create your own emergency car kits to be prepared for anything.

In an emergency kit, I would have to have a Bible. While all the things in this emergency kit is very useful, if we are truly being over-run by zombies, I can think of no better tool than the good old King James Bible :-)

Hmm, I'm gonna go with a backpack carrying a Swiss Army knife and duct tape. Obviously, food and water are a must, but one can do so much with duct tape…. :)

I think the most important things are food, water, shelter, and a plan.

Some kind of protein bar or granola bars & bottles of water to keep you energized & hydrates while evading zombies or are stuck in a snow storm!

Tequila is extremely important. Can be used to sterilize wounds, degrease parts, and keep items from freezing! Don't forget the blender and the Margarita mix to celebrate once the Zombies have been defeated!

Many people carry their cell phones but as many have seen with recent hikers being lost, etc. if your cell phone dies options for people to find you either by calling you or using your phones GPS to locate you is limited. Everyone should have a solar powered cell phone charger on them at all times. While this may not help you against zombies…it will at least put you in touch with people who can really help and airlift you out of zombie land. Last time I checked zombies don't use cell phones.

I think having a cell phone to call the zombie squad, that's the most important. I myself prefer not to have to do the work. But, I will lead the revolution!

For me I would also add Plastic sheeting and rope. When you add that to the duct tape you can use it for many different things and the rope could come in handy if you went over a small ravine and need it to help you climb out or the help you get ashore if you went into a body of water.

Extra pair of gloves, scarf, bottled water and a flash light. Of course you want a spare thats inflated and some accesories to change the flat, but when i was stuck in the Snowmageddon in Chicago of 2011, my best friend was a half tank of gas, scarf and car charget for my cell phone to communicate with the world and of course use Twitter and FB but the heater stayed on and I stayed warm waiting for help.
